SAP Sports One: Short Intro
Lately I’ve been spending quite a bit of time learning about new technologies – other than SAP SuccessFactors – as they apply to the HR ecosystem for the most part.
However, today I wanted to introduce to you, one that I’ve been spending the most energy (on my free time) playing with, and learning about.
It is with great pleasure and excitement to introduce to you SAP Sports One
SAP Sports One
SAP Sports One, is a cloud product that belongs to the SAP Sports & Entertainment portfolio, which addresses the need around sports operations of professional soccer clubs and associations.
Note: Today there are hockey teams and basketball teams who use the product in a very limited capacity, but the main active deployments are centered within the sport of soccer (or football for some of us).
What is SAP Sports One?
As mentioned earlier SAP Sports One is a cloud based solution that allows professional soccer teams run their operations better around these main key areas:
- Training
- Health
- Match
- Scouting
- Fitness
In addition to being able to analyze different teams and different competitions across the globe.
It is essentially a system which connects with other sports content providers such as Opta, Prozone, GolStats, etc. and combines the data with current master data around players, documents, events, fitness, scouting, etc. to offer a full set of applications for all different roles within the team.
The SAP Sports One focuses on about 7 groups of features and functionality which in my own lingo (or SuccessFactors speaking) I would call modules. These are:
- Team Manager which handles master data for players and team across different leagues.
- Training Management which handles high level and detailed training plans.
- Player Fitness which captures and tracks player’s injuries, medication and health history.
- Performance Diagnostics which analyzes and tracks player’s performance and test results.
- Performance Insights which tracks, analyzes and offer insights around the current match and opposite team’s data.
- Scouting which helps identify the best players across different teams, leagues and countries, and help develop youth players for the current team’s needs.
- Talent Management which helps evaluate players’ performance, but it becomes especially attractive for youth teams or B teams.
Other key points
The roots of SAP Sports One have its beginning many years ago with a partnership between SAP and TSG Hoffenheim, which is a German team known, among many things, for its deep connections to SAP.
This idea, of being able to leverage SAP's technology with sports data became quite attractive to the DFB (German National Team) back then, and just like magic, SAP Match Insights was created and used to help the Germans bring home the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
SAP Sports One has evolved tremendously over the past 24 months, and continues expanding its footprint across this niche market of teams across the world including FC Bayer Munich, Manchester City, and dozens of other teams.
I’m personally very excited about this product and as I continue learning more about it, I will be sharing my thoughts and insights across this and other channels. Stay tuned.
In case you want to learn more, or gain a bit more context about this very cool and sexy product, there are a decent number of videos in YouTube which I invite you to check out.
My last thought is that although this is a very niche market, if you happen work for a professional soccer team and you are interested on implementing SAP Sports One, please do not hesitate in contacting me. Remember, SAP Sports One is just one out of many other solutions that SAP offers for the Sports and Entertainment industry around business operations and venue, sales and commerce, marketing and engagement, and team performance.
I would love to have the opportunity to tell you more about these solutions, and help you connect with the right people.
